It is not many years since all statistical investigations were to be distrusted because biometry was as yet no science at all. It was customary to present a few figures and to draw from them extensive and unusual interpretations without taking into account numerous conditions that bore on possible interpretations. The modern biometrician realizes that allowances must be made for all sorts of factors and possible errors in the accumulation of medical statistical material, and is inclined to present his results exactly for what they are. In all the fundamental books on vital statistics, students are warned to beware of interpretations from general death rates.

Welcome HPU Physician Assistant and Pharmacy Preceptors!

Library resource guide for HPU preceptors

The libraries at High Point University are dedicated to the success of our students and work hard to support the research of our faculty. We do this by providing a vast array of content with access to 32,000 journals and 900,000 books, films and other scholarly content. Resources that we provide for our students include -  UpToDate, Micromedex, JAMA and Nature.com

Visit Smith Library

You are welcome to visit the campus library. Smith Library is open 24/7 for our students during the regular semester. Smith Library is open to the public from 8am to 5pm Monday through Saturday.

Once you are in the building you can use your laptop or one of the library chrome books to search for content that is accessible via one of the databases such as PubMed or the online library catalog.

Access to content

Everyone wants access to content and health providers realize that good content is often hard to find because of pay walls and proprietary data.

Smith Library has access to a large collection of journal content and we can help with access! Here is how:

  • The student in your charge has access to the all of the library content via their mobile or computer. Each students attends a workshop on how to access our content via a mobile device. They can then access our holdings and use our databases via the library webpage.
  • Finally, we added a tab to this guide (Article request form) where you can request access to a journal article of interest. We will send a PDF copy or link with access to this content to the HPU student in your charge so they can share that content with you.
