Graduate Student Library Guide : Library Services & Spaces

An Overview of Library Services & Resources for Graduate Students

Ask A Librarian!

Librarians are available to help you with your research and citation questions! Check out our Ask a Librarian page to find out how to email, chat, text, or call the HPU Libraries.

Research Appointments

Graduate students are invited to make one-on-one appointments with librarians to get assistance with research and citation. We have liaisons for each subject but all of the reference staff are quite capable.

Just follow this link to find the Appointment Scheduling page where students can make either in-person or virtual appointments.

You can also contact reference@highpoint.edu or call 336-841-9101.

Smith Library - Study Spaces

First Floor > Group Study

The first floor (lower level) of Smith Library (1st Floor) provides several collaboration stations where groups of students can hook up a laptop to a large screen to work together. This area also provides DVD/Blu-Ray players and TVs where students can watch films placed on reserve by a professor. There are also several large tables where students can gather, as well as rolling white boards that can be moved around the space as needed. Students can also reserve the lecture rooms to practice presentations or work on projects. To reserve a room, email the Media & Digital Resource Librarian at media@highpoint.edu to make a reservation and to check the Schedule a Space link for availability on the Library homepage menu.

Main Floor > Quiet Study

The main floor of Smith Library (2nd floor) is a designated Quiet Study area. However, since it is also the main entrance to the library and where reference and circulation take place, it may be a bit noisier than some might prefer. There are several large tables in this area where students can spread out their work, as well as individual tables. On this floor, we also provide a large number of Macs and PCs for student use. Black and white and color printing is free in the library. We also provide copiers and scanners on this floor. The Powell Room, our special collections room, is also located on this floor and may be used by individuals or groups for studying.

Third Floor > Quiet Study

The third floor of Smith Library is a designated Quiet Study area. There are a number of individual study carrels and smaller tables available in this space.
