What about the reference list?
The AMA style manual provides little guidance on the reference list. It should be in numerical order, as the references appear in the text. You don't need to duplicate a reference if you cite it more than once (see in-text citation tab for more info). Check out this page for an example reference list: https://libguides.jcu.edu.au/ama/sample-reference-list
What if the info I am citing is a citation itself of another work?
According to the AMA style manual, reference to an author's citation of another's work is allowed. Finding the original source is preferred. See Section 3.13.10 of the manual for more details.
How should I refer to authors by name within the text?
Use only last names and be sure to include a numbered citation (see the in-text citations tab). If the work has two authors, use both last names (i.e. Dickens and Poe) if there are three or more, use the first listed author's last name and 'et al.' (i.e. Fitzgerald et al.)
Should I cite if...?
See the in-text citations tab for tips on when to cite - if you're ever uncertain, err on the side of caution and cite!
Where should I go for more help?
You can access the full AMA style manual with the link on the overview page. You can also download EndNote from the link on that same page, and use it to help with keeping track of your references and citing.
