Banned & Challenged Books: Political

Banned or Challenged on Political Grounds

The following entries represent a sample of books that have been challenged or banned for political reasons. Books included on this list have been challenged or banned by national and local governments, as well as at the community level by parents, school boards, etc. (Karolides, Bald, and Sova, 1999.) These books may be challenged or banned because of attempted government suppression or attempted parental suppression of ideas being introduced to their children (Karolides, Bald, and Sova, 1999.)

Click on each book to learn more about it and where you can find it at HPU Libraries.

For more information on these and other banned books, including why these books were challenged or banned, please read "100 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature" or "Literature Suppressed on Political Grounds."
