Review the video tutorial and information on health science content on this page, then complete the CHECKPOINT at the bottom. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask a librarian.
Understanding Health Sciences Research Content
Health Sciences content is different than other types of literature in many ways. Topics, audiences, and research methods will determine the complexity and extent of language, as well as formats, used to communicate messaging. Watch the video below to help you understand how health sciences content is developed and presented.
HPU-Specific Links for Web Collections
Using HPU-Specific links for Google Scholar or PubMed will connect the search engines with HPU Libraries (and our Journal Finder* tool) and generate links for content found if the library has subscription access. Using these links also connect your search results to the HPU Libraries' Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service discussed in Part 1 of this series. This will enable you to make ILL requests when searching either Google Scholar or PubMed.
Google Scholar (HPU-Specific Link)
Use this link to connect Google Scholar with HPU's Journal Finder.
Use the Journal Finder icon next to article entries to check for HPU access.
*You will learn more about Journal Finder in Part 3
Find a Systematic Review on a topic of your choice using the PubMed (HPU Specific Link) database.
REMINDER ABOUT CHECKPOINTS! For each CHECKPOINT, you are asked to complete various tasks. Start a new Word document for Part 2 (you may use other software and convert the document to a PDF for submission). As you progress through each CHECKPOINT, enter the requested information on your document. You will submit that document at end of the module when completing the CHECKLIST on the final tab. An example of a completed CHECKLIST document is below:
